Foreshadowing

Foreshadowing

Tarah and I were just returning from our trip to Sacramento this past
weekend, walking through the sunny airport parking lot, when we
noticed how Tarah’s shadow really tells the story about how close we
are to having this kid. I’m amazed by how graceful her pregnancy has
been these past 8 months. She really has taken the changes that come
with being pregnant in stride. I am very proud of her.

But we sure did get a kick out of her new shadow! Only 4 more weeksish!

Many of you have asked who was the pug watching me work in the prior
post on “Preparing for a baby.” Well this is Bootie, she came highly
recommended and has personally overseen all of the work done to date.
So far no complaints from us, but we haven’t seen the bill yet, but
you know how pugs are. . .

Preparing for a baby

Preparing for a baby

Well according to Katie, I need to walk the talk and post more then I
read. I like to catch up on what my friends are doing through their
blogs, we all do. My problem continues to be dedicating time to share
what we’re up to on the homefront. Well we are pretty focused right
now on what some might call “nesting.” Some people might paint a
room, buy a special rocking chair or buy a new car. I feel we have
taken the art to a whole new level. How about new floors, new sinks,
painting the whole house, getting the rocking chair (thanks to Popi
and grandma) and the car.

Tarah and I have spent a lot of time looking at buying a house here in
California, something before our little guy is born, only to find that
the market is not quite where we need it to be to take that step
comfortably. I could share with you all of the weekends we spent
touring homes and the spreadsheets, conversations with lenders and
strategies, but we’ve resolved (and this could change next week) that
we like where we are, but we needed to make some important changes to
be completely comfortable with our decision to keep renting and
watching the market soften. So, we decided that new floors and a
fresh paint job would do the trick for now. So over the next three
weeks we are dedicated to the major effort of remodeling someone
else’s house to better serve our interests in preparing for the
arrival of our son in September. Before you write us off as crazy,
consider the facts. With three dogs, living in rural Carpinteria and
the fact we love our neighborhood (no neighbors), this major project
is a small investment for the overall cleanliness necessary for our
true desire for cleanliness, order and happiness.

This certainly brings me back to the days of Shelton and all of the
projects that were a part of my everyday life up in Washington.
However, since becoming a tenet myself, I haven’t lifted a hammer for
almost two years until now. Tarah has been quite the trooper and
helper despite her being pregnant. She’s right alongside me every
weekend and evening. We’re a good team and everything is coming
together nicely. Tarah, in her typical organizational fashion, has
quite the calendar of events for this effort, complete with a schedule
and backup plans. Its all pretty impressive and it is working. I
feel like we are one of those HDTV home shows.

Obviously we are both super motivated by our excitement to have
everything ready for the big day when we come home in September. I’ve
worked on similar projects with various motivations, but this one is
especially motivating. Only comparable to my bathroom remodel at our
Deegan house before Tarah came and visited me for the first time in
Washington after we got back together. . .way back when. I miss the
team I had there, Donny, my dad, my brother and Brad, but we’re
getting it done here, pregnant lady and all!

Mommy-mobileOh and the new “mommy-mobile” is great! No work necessary there.
